Stoughton Hospital Exceeds Goal and Raises $2.4 Million

in memoriam

Jim McDonald, Co-Founder of our firm, passed away on November 12, 2016, at the age of 91. Jim was born and raised in Marshfield, WI. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and saw action in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning home after the war, he attended St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI, and St. John's Seminary in Little Rock, AR. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1954 and served the Diocese of La Crosse from 1958 to 1969.  Jim came to Milwaukee in 1969 and joined Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., becoming an Executive Officer and Vice President. In 1970, Jim married Rita and they were happily married 46 years until his death. After his retirement from Northwestern in 1991, he devoted his time to volunteer activities in countless ways for dozens of nonprofit organizations throughout Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Jim will be remembered by his many friends and colleagues as a singularly kind, gentle, unassuming, honest, happy man, whose integrity was an example to all who knew him. A light has gone out in the world with his passing and all of us at McDonald Schaefer will fondly remember Jim and thank him and Rita, with co-Founders Gerry and Kathy Schaefer for their vision, dedication and courage starting a firm 20 years ago that today still honor its Founders’ original mission to help nonprofits develop funding to carry out their important work.
